Newark

Newark sits west of Fremont, low and residential, with salt ponds and wildlife refuge at its edge. It is calmer than its size on a regional map suggests.

The commercial core covers ordinary life. The shoreline is more refuge than boardwalk, which is a better walk if you like birds and a worse one if you wanted a promenade. Fremont’s districts and BART do a lot of the regional work.

Housing is often the reason people choose it over flashier neighbors. Know the flight paths and the industrial edges the way you would in any city this close to the bay’s working shore.
