San Ramon Valley · Contra Costa County

San Ramon

San Ramon is the employment and housing engine at the south end of the valley. Bishop Ranch, newer neighborhoods, and easy access to the freeway define it more than a historic square does.

The city center has been built up into a real gathering place, with shopping and restaurants, but the civic personality is still suburban and practical. Jobs are local in a way many East Bay towns cannot claim. Dublin and Danville pull in opposite directions: one toward BART, one toward the old main street.

Heat, newer construction, and a car-based map are the honest description. It fits people building a family routine more than people hunting a night scene.

Getting around

Car and freeway. The closest BART is the Dublin/Pleasanton line, not a station in central San Ramon.
