Albany

Albany is easy to miss between Berkeley and El Cerrito, which is part of the appeal. Solano Avenue, a waterfront park out on the bay, and a tight grid of houses do most of the work.

You can walk to groceries, a movie theater, and dinner without performing a big night out. The bulb and Albany Beach open the city toward the bay and a view back at the Bay Bridge and the skyline. Schools and the small-city scale are why families stay.

There is no BART station in Albany. North Berkeley and El Cerrito Plaza are the neighboring stops. That is close enough for a commute and far enough that the commercial streets stay local.

Getting around

BART is in the next towns over: North Berkeley and El Cerrito Plaza. Solano Avenue is the walk. The bayfront path is the long way out.
